What is NPR and What do They Do?

How NPR was Established and the Purpose it Serves

NPR (National Public Radio) is a privately and publicly funded non-profit media organization that serves as a national syndicator to a member network of 900 public radio stations across the US. In 1970, after congressional passage of the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967 and signing into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson, the National Educational Radio Network was replaced by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which also created the Public Broadcasting Service in addition to NPR. NPR is a membership organization NPR logo.where member stations are required to be non-commercial or non-commercial educational radio stations. In addition, member stations are required not be used for classroom distance learning programming or designed primarily to further a religious broadcasting philosophy.

Among the original purposes set for NPR, two have been to provide an identifiable daily product which is consistent and reflects the highest standards of broadcast journalism and to acquire and produce cultural programing which can be scheduled individually by stations. They also established that they would develop and distribute programs for specific local groups, that may not have general national relevance. The results have been outstanding programming on items that might not have made it on other broadcasts. Every day there are stories about events or happenings that you will not hear anywhere else.

NPR produces and distributes numerous Public Affairs Programs and Cultural Programs, one of which is Car Talk, a humorous automotive advice talk show hosted by Tom Magliozzi and Ray Magliozzi (Click & Clack). Their always invaluable advice has established them as credible sources on all things about cars. We include Car talka video that emphasizes the benefits of NPR car donation program and what to be aware of when choosing a vehicle donation program. Always spot on with good advice they discuss ways to ensure that more of the car's proceeds end up with the charity.

It's easy to donate your car to NPR. Just locate your station and you'll soon be waving goodbye to that old car.
